What is Reiki?

Is it a holistic healing art, a meditation technique, an endless supply of energy? All this and more. The Japanese word Reiki means universal life force energy. It is the life force that flows through everything in the universe—our essence. The word Reiki consists of two parts: “Rei,” which pertains to the universal, infinite quality of this energy—that which we call Spirit—and “ki,” which is a subset of “rei,” referring to the vital life force energy that runs through all living things.

Many people may be more familiar with the Chinese word “chi,” which holds the same meaning as “ki.” Those acquainted with the martial arts have likely heard of chi. Hindus refer to this same life force energy as “prana.”

Numerous cultures and religions have named this energy. Reiki, however, is not attached to any specific philosophy or religion and is available to all who wish to learn it. Anyone can become a Reiki channel by being initiated or “attuned” by a Reiki Master. Reiki “attunements” open a person to the healing energy, and once the channel is open that person will have access to Reiki for the rest of his or her life.

This universal life energy can promote well-being and greater wholeness in every part of one’s life and bring balance and harmony to body, mind and spirit.

This ancient healing technique was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the late 1800s. Diana Henderson practices and teaches the Usui Shiki Ryoho, or the “Usui System of Natural Healing.” See details on Reiki sessions and classes below.

Reiki Classes

Reiki classes are typically held regul)arly (every couple of months. Diana is available for classes in Cary and Raleigh, North Carolina. You may contact Diana to inquire about potential class dates and add your input.

Reiki I (First Degree)
Those seeking certification in Reiki, Level I, receive four attunements. All the Reiki basics are covered in this 10-hour course including techniques, uses, history, guidelines and more. There is ample time for hands-on training. There is also an introduction to chakras, the body’s energy centers. Diana’s extensive Reiki handbook is provided. Students receive a Reiki, Level I, certificate at the end of class. Optional bonus (no extra charge): Additional two-hour training in chakra balancing offered at another time designated by class. The cost varies based on number of participants. Cost is $150 for groups of three or more, $175 for semi-private, 2-person training, or $300 for private training.

Reiki II (Second Degree)
Students receive two Level II attunements, which enable them to learn and use the Reiki symbols to speed and intensify the flow of healing energy, transmit Reiki over great distances and connect with others on a subconscious level. Includes discussion and demonstration of Reiki II techniques as well as hands-on training. If necessary, a brief review of Reiki I procedures is also offered. Optional bonus: Additional two-hour training in past life regression offered at another time designated by class.

The cost for Reiki II is $175 per person for a class of three or more, $200 per person for a semi-private class of two, or $325 for private training.

Reiki III: The Master Program
The Master Program is open to anyone who has completed Reiki I and II and taken the time to learn the Level II symbols. Those who may have studied with other teachers are welcome.

This 10 to 14-hour intensive (depending upon class size) includes

• Review of the Reiki I and II techniques as needed
• The Reiki Master attunement, which further refines, focuses and intensifies the energy*
• Instruction and hands-on training in the Reiki Master symbol
• Instruction in how to give Reiki attunements at the first and second-degree levels
• Energy enhancing and balancing techniques
• Diana’s Reiki I and II manuals (for those who took the classes from other teachers)
• Reiki Master Manual
• One year of follow-up as outlined below under Diana’s Reiki Master Program

Almost half the class focuses on hands-on practice. This affords participants the opportunity to gain confidence in offering attunements and in using the Usui Master symbol.

Instruction is also given in the application of an additional symbol, which the Master administers to her/himself to stimulate energy, bring balance to the thymus gland and enhance health. The energy enhancing techniques taught in this class—part of the esoteric master training—allow the master to access high-frequency energy to empower both attunements and session work as well.

Diana’s Reiki I and II handbooks are provided (to those who learned from other teachers) in addition to extensive Reiki III materials.

*A second Reiki Master attunement is given after the level III practitioner completes requirements of full mastery.
** Those who complete this course receive certification in Reiki, Level III.

Diana’s Reiki Master Program includes:

1. A private follow-up (usually during the week following the class) to review techniques, breathwork and running energy to enhance the master level work (optional)
2. Progress sessions every 2-3 months for one year after the class to share questions, insights, experiences and gain further wisdom on the path of mastery. Attendance is optional but encouraged.

The cost for Reiki III Master training is $1,000, which covers the cost of the class. All subsequent follow-up meetings are a bonus from Diana (free of charge). (If necessary, paying in installments is possible and is common at Level III. Please make arrangements in advance.)

Bonus to Master Class members: Participants receive additional training at a later date in advanced energy techniques to clear and balance chakras, etc.

**The final Reiki Master certification is completed one year (or more) later at no additional charge; you may choose one of two paths of mastery:

Reiki Master Teacher option:
In order to become a Reiki Master Teacher, Reiki III practitioners must complete the following requirements:

1. Teach at least two Reiki I and two Reiki II classes
2. Write your own Reiki I and II manuals
3. Become proficient in working at the Master level for at least a year

You may take a year or longer to complete these requirements. Once this process is accomplished, the Level III practitioner returns for a private session to receive the final Master attunement, instruction in the Master/Level III attunement process and the Master certificate. Once final Master certification is complete, the new Reiki Master may begin to teach Level III classes if he or she chooses.

Reiki Master Practitioner option:
In order to become a Reiki Master Practitioner, Reiki III practitioners must complete the following requirements:

1. Perform at least 100 full-body (one hour or more) Reiki sessions on clients (may be 100 different clients or, as is more likely, a number of clients who come for repeat sessions).
2. Have each client fill out a session rating sheet (with brief questions).
3. Write case studies for 10 clients’ sessions.
4. Answer both oral or written questions related to the Master work.

You may take a year or longer to complete these requirements. Once this process is accomplished, the Level III practitioner returns for a private session to receive the final Master attunement and the Master certificate. Note: Instruction in the Master attunement technique is reserved for those who choose the Master Teacher path.

NOTE: Some Reiki III practitioners choose not to complete the requirements and continue to practice at Level III, which is absolutely fine. The option remains open to complete them and return for the full master certification when and if the practitioner wishes to do.

How to pay… Students may choose to pay in one lump sum, or when necessary, paying in installments is possible. If installments are chosen, at least $250 should be paid in advance or at the time of class and the remainder in monthly payments.

Reiki Sessions

Diana generally spends a few minutes prior to treatment setting the client at ease or discussing concerns. All treatments take place with the client fully clothed and generally lying on a Reiki table. Unless a shorter, specifically-targeted treatment is requested, most sessions last for approximately one hour and a full body treatment is given. The session often begins with a body scan to pinpoint “hot spots,” or areas needing extra attention. The Reiki technique which follows is either hands-on or if necessary may be performed an inch or so above the body. The full-body treatment covers all major organs and glands as well as all the major chakras (energy centers) of the body.

Cost is a *sliding scale of $65 to $95 for a one-hour, full-body session. A half-hour, targeted session costs $45.

*A sliding scale allows for leeway regarding cost based on your own financial situation. The minimum for a one-hour session is $65, but you may offer more if your finances allow you to do so comfortably.

Occasionally, Diana makes house calls for homebound clients; the cost for these sessions is $95 per hour (in parts of Raleigh, in Garner, Cary, Fuquay-Varina or Apex). Diana is available by appointment at The Bodywork Center of Cary (directions) and on the first Thursday and third Tuesday of each month in Raleigh, North Carolina. Diana’s Background
My journey as a healer began in 1996 when I was first introduced to Reiki, which remains for me a profound foundational practice that I use each day. At the time I was guided to Reiki, I sought healing and relief from chronic pain resulting from a debilitating car accident. Little did I know what an amazing path was in store from that moment forward! After Reiki training in 1997, I embraced my true calling and began a practice. I became a Reiki Master in 1998 and quickly found that teaching Reiki classes along with working with clients renewed my sense of purpose and instilled joy beyond my imagining.  I felt as if I were “coming home” to the truth of my soul!

I continued to learn new holistic tools and was certified in DNA Activation, a process for self-healing and mastery, in 1999. That same year I was trained in Therapeutic Breathwork, a breathing technique that allows clients in session to “re-take” their first breath to release the painful impressions imprinted at birth, and certification in the technique followed in 2000.  During many years of study and practice, I’ve also taken courses in Esoteric Healing, Advanced Energy, Quantum Touch, Tibetan Chakra Toning, Muscle Testing, Spirituality, and Dreams among many others on this path of remembering what my spirit always knew.

Most recently I was guided to “birth” a wonderful new healing modality, Sacred Heart Soul Healing (SHSH). After using the techniques on clients over the course of two years (2012-2014), I began teaching the first level class. Through sessions as well as training others, I continue to learn more and the process grows, and shifts with the unfolding blessings of Spirit. I am ever grateful to Beloved Jeshua and the Ascended Masters and Archangels of Light for giving me the guidance and understanding of how to do and present this modality.

Much of my work as a healer/teacher/messenger focuses on assisting others in opening to their gifts, embracing wholeness and enhancing their spiritual connection. In addition to practicing alternative healing modalities, I teach classes in all levels of Reiki, Angels and Archangels, Energetic Cleansing, Intuition, Crystals, Chakra Balancing, Meditation, DNA Activation and more.

Through the years, I’ve come to realize that nothing on my path was wasted time.  My work as a former graphic designer, writer and high school English teacher contributes to the path I walk now as teacher, healing facilitator, ascension artist, writer and speaker.

I am so grateful to have aligned with my soul purpose and found the work that brings me bliss!  One of the most fulfilling aspects of my work comes from assisting others in doing the same.
